WHO DO YOU WORK WITH?

As a qualified Social Worker, I have extensive experience and specialized expertise which includes working as part of an interdisciplinary team in healthcare environments such as hospitals and long-term care facilities.

I also have experience supporting families and have worked within the school system, both elementary and secondary, to support children/youth and their families grieving or caring for loved ones who are palliative in a hospice setting, hospital or in their homes.

ABOUT ME

Erin Walter (McInnis) BA BSW RSW APHSW-C

Grief arrived early in my life, and in many ways, it has shaped everything that followed. The death of someone we love cracks us open—and suddenly, the world doesn’t look the same. I know this not just as a counsellor, but as a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a woman who’s walked through deep loss and kept walking.

I’m Erin Walter (McInnis), and for over 25 years, I’ve had the honour of sitting beside individuals and families in some of the most raw, uncertain, and heartbreaking moments of their lives. I bring my whole self to this work: my training, yes—but also my humanity. I don’t believe in clinical distance. I believe in compassion, in real talk, and in holding space for people when the ground beneath them has shifted.

I’m a registered Social Worker with the OCSWSSW and a member of the OASW. I also hold an Advanced Palliative Hospice Social Work Certification (APHSW-C), a designation held by only a handful of professionals in Canada. My focus is grief, loss, life transitions, and the weight of anxiety or uncertainty that often shows up when the future becomes unfamiliar.

Based in the Ottawa Valley—Arnprior, Ontario—I offer both in-person for palliative care and virtual counselling for adults and teens across the province.

My approach is warm, grounded, and real. I work from the heart, helping clients move through grief, anxiety, overwhelm, and major life shifts in a way that honours where they are and supports where they want to go.

This work became even more personal in November 2023, when I experienced the most devastating loss of my life: my beautiful son Owyn was killed in a car accident while away at TRU university in BC.

There are no words for this kind of heartbreak, however I show up each day with my daughter Brielle, choosing love, choosing to keep going, and choosing to help others do the same. It was not easy, community, connection and conservations remain key foundation blocks to my way of life.

Counselling with me isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about being seen, being held, and having someone who won’t flinch when the hard parts come out.

I’m here to walk alongside you—to help carry what’s too heavy to hold alone, and to believe in your capacity to rebuild, even if you don’t yet.

If you’re feeling like life has unraveled, like your heart is broken in places words can’t quite reach, you’re not alone.

Reach out when you’re ready. I’d be honoured to walk with you.

COUNSELLING SESSIONS

We all need to be heard, especially when we're struggling or hurting. When we are truly heard, we are given the opportunity to explore our past and present.  Through guided exploration, we are able to focus on our challenges.

I approach each session with a sincere interest in how you perceive and understand the world around you.

My philosophy in counselling is client centred combined with strength based, solution-focused and a narrative perspective because each client is unique.

This is accomplished by building a trusting relationship with you as a client and creating a collaborative and supportive environment in which you may feel heard and understood.

I work with children and youth, adults, families and seniors.

Counselling sessions are provided via telephone or through video conferencing so that you can stay and comfortable in your home or surroundings.

EM Consulting is committed to providing quality social work support in a safe and effective way.

Find a quiet space and we can talk.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND AWARENESS

Throughout the year, webinars, workshops, blogs and learning opportunities will be offered because growing and learning as a community are extremely important to me.

I believe in the philosophy that it takes a village to grow, and that philosophy is equally true for supporting one another through difficult times. As we change and develop through our experiences, we are then better able to support others around us.

If you are interested in having me speak at a community event, group, lunch and learn or meeting, please contact me, and I will be happy to make arrangements.

Keep in mind that video conferencing is a safe and effective way to communicate with your community as well.
